Roxx Action interview
As a beginning glam band with very young members, these guys promise to bring something special in the (near?) future.
Our first experiency with them was some old-shool rock 'n' roll fun, so that's reason enough to have a talk with them. Hold on tight, 'cause this gives energy to everyone.

What brought you guys to playing glamrock, especially seen as Belgium is not really "open" to this genre?
We’re all big fans of the music and everything around it: looks, show, attitude, lifestyle,... it’s just rock ‘n roll. We also like to entertain, and always try to bring a really energetic and kickass live show!
I think Belgium actually is open to glamrock, it's just fairly unknown here. There is currently a big comeback of this style of music going on, but it just hasn't reached out to here yet. That's part of the reason we started this band. We always get very positive reactions and people really like what we're doing.
How did you guys hook up?
We are all friends of each other or related, and it seemed like at one point in November 2009 it came out that we all wanted to be in a glamrock band. Nick was a guitar player, Alexx switched from guitar to bass, and it appeared that Nick's brother Roy had a kickass voice and attitude so it was obvious that he would became a frontman. We also knew a kickass drummer who was up for it as well, and so we started. At first we were asking ourselves if we shouldn't first try to improve ourselves as musicians, seeing as how there is alot of skill involved in this type of music. But then we thought to our selves "screw it, it's about having fun" and so we began.
Did you have any previous band experience?
Our singer Roy and guitarist Nick are brothers, who both play in a thrash metal band called Platoon in which Roy drums. They started out in the summer of 2009 so they already had a bit of band experience. Our drummer Jimi has also been drumming in a metal band called Fallen From Grace for a couple of years. Alexx had also played guitar in a rock band for a couple months but it died out before we started with Roxx action, for which he switched to the bass.
What are your main influences and how do you translate that into your songs?
Our influences range from old bands like Mötley Crüe and Guns n' Roses to newer bands like Vains of Jenna, Blackrain, Dirty Penny, and old rock n' roll out of the 50s and 60s. Those influences translate into the songs by things like the atmosphere of a song, or ideas that we bring into our own context.
How do you see yourselves evolving in the next five years?
We would like to become better at what we do (songwriting, musicianship) and be on the road, touring some countries and doing alot of gigs. We always seem to be at a point where we tell ourselves "damn, what if there will be coming nothing better out of us, what if this is it", but then we usually end up with a new song, haha. So we hope to get a really nice pack of amazing songs together and get to play alot. And have fans of course because you're nothing without them. Everything has been going really fast since we started out so we hope the future will still remain positive.
Anything big coming up in the near future?
Supporting Vains of Jenna the 9th of June is something we are really looking forward to! It's a pretty big deal for us seeing as how we're big fans of them. There is also a big chance that we'll be supporting Dirty Penny in a couple of months, which we are really excited for as well! There are also a couple of other cool gigs comming up in the summer which we look forward to.
How do you like the gig response so far?
Really great! We always get very positive reactions from people of all ages. There are older people who say it's an amazing experience to see us live because it reminds them of their own youth in the 80s, and then the younger people tell us how they think it's great how they can still experience a bit of the 80s even though they've never been there, haha! We're really thankfull for all the great reactions we get, seeing as how we've only started out 6 months ago.
Any demo/cd plans coming?
We would really like to record some of our songs so we can share them with the world, but we're all still in school so it's hard to get the kind of money it takes to record. Some of us are glad they have something left at the end of the month haha. We have had a couple of contacts recently who were interested in helping us out, but nothing has come out of it yet. We should probably stop counting on drunk people haha! Anyway, whenever we will bring something out, you'll certainly hear from us!
What would be your perfect gig? Who would headline?
Hmm that's not very difficult. It would probably be supporting Mötley Crüe in a large packed stadium or festival. No doubt. Maybe we should invest in a time machine.
Any shouts-outs?
If you want to have a fun time come check us out and hang out with us! If we don't play anywhere near you, get us booked! You can contact us at www.myspace.com/roxxaction.
