Man, it must have been aeons ago that I was this excited about a band hailing from Antwerp, Belgium. In fact, I don’t think I was ever this excited. Up until now I was certain that said town was lost for humanity, music-wise, so it is with much pleasure, ladies & gentlemen, boys & girls, that I present you… The City! And The City, little monsters, is one awesome band. Sweaty sleaze, filthy rock, bad breath, an even worse attitude, you name it, the boys have it in spades. I don’t know what the members previous musical occupations were, what exactly the history of this combo is and frankly, I don’t care all that much, because the collection of songs, currently in my down & dirty CD-player on my rough & ready desk is…well, rough & ready, down & dirty. These gentlemen listened to everything that was glam & glitter in the late 70’s and through the whole of the 80’s, stirred up their own brew, tattooed their collective pitiful souls and started writing, rehearsing & recording. The result is The City’s debut, one of the best sleazy rock ‘n’ roll record ever released in this unholy country. Well, since Southern Voodoo’s debut, that is, years ago, but that’s another story altogether…
