Prepare to be hurled into a bold and brash hard rock album from Finnish rockers Santa Cruz. Title track Anthem for the Young N’ Restless propels you into the big, stadium sound these guys are going for. The vocals are a little hit and miss and lack the charm to pull off those rough edges. The guy’s certainly got a range on his lungs though! Let’s Get The Party Started has a more punky sound and you can hear the roots of this genre throughout the album, especially in the anthem like Hostile Shakedown. These guys seem angry and their certainly not afraid, or unable, to put it down in words and riffs. I liked Sweet Sensation because it seemed to explore a bit more, perhaps because it slows down the relentless rhythms, which I admit are all a little similar, without dragging the overall pace of the album down. Too Late, Tonight seemed a strange track to end on as I wouldn’t say the slower songs were the band’s strongest but they proved they can play with some feeling and diversity too. I enjoyed the album although struggled to find definition between some of the tracks and parts of it came across as still slightly immature. Santa Cruz has great potential though and I for one will be watching out for them.
