Here we have the brand-new full-length album of the Swedish Hard Rockers Pompei Nights. Earlier this year, they released two singles (“Midnight Mistress” and “I Want It”) which were received pretty well by the critics (and the fans). I’m very curious about these guys, ‘cause I never heard them before. Exciting!

It’s a great decision of these Swedish glamour dogs to start off with their single “Midnight Mistress”. An enjoyable song and it’s clear Pompei Nights isn’t your typical sleaze rock band. They bring something different to the table; a dazzling display of talent.

After the second and solid song “Shaded”, their second single hits my speakers. “I Want It” has a very cool guitar sound which keeps the head banging and stagediving thoughts spinning in my head. I’m pretty sure that all you rockers out there would think the same as me when you turn your volume to 10. Great job!

After the blast of these tracks, the power ballad “Out Of Bounds” leaves me open-mouthed. It’s a shocking fact but… I really like this song. Singer Joey Eden has a really touching kind of emotion in his voice; it almost made me cry…yeah yeah, ALMOST I said! Besides this, music-wise it’s very well-balanced; that’s how a ballad should be. Top notch.

We continue with a Hard Rock n’ Rollin’ song called “Mistreated”. A very hateful song in my estimation (‘cause it gets me a bit angry) and it’s filled with catchy lyrics, gang vocals; the whole nine yards.

“She’s Stuck” is my very favourite song. Don’t exactly know why, it’s hard to explain… but let me tell you this: tons of awesomeness is present!

Boyband-hit “Leaving It All Up” has some potential, but I can’t get into this. Just a fun song, but it doesn’t pull it off to be remembered as a “Pompei Nights classic”. On the other hand, “High On Adrenaline” is a lot heavier than the previous track and really could have been Pompei Night’s third single. So, these two songs together should get a B+ average.

Last call: “The Scene Is Set” and the concluding ballad “Painful Heartbeat”. Both songs are worth a listen.

Overall I’m very pleased with this album. The formula works and that’s the most important thing. Pretty boys bring you a kickass Hard Rock sound; a great combination. Besides that, Pompei Nights is the proof that you don’t necessarily need a really high singing voice to be noted as a sleaze/glam band. I can’t wait ‘till these glamboiis come to Belgium and the Netherlands. Until that day comes: grab yourself a copy!
