Amaranthe is a Swedish/Danish melodic heavy metal band with a plethora of influences that holds the midway somewhere between melodic death and power metal and guarantee very accessible, good sounding tracks.

The band uses up to three (!) singers (Elize Ryd, Jake E. and Andy Solvestrom) who each have their own contribution.

The six hold some names you probably will recognize from other bands. So you can find Olof Morck also in Nightrage and Dragonland, drummer Morton Lowe Sörensen you might know of bands such as Scarve, Submission, The Arcane Order and his session work for Soilwork and Jake E. does not only do the vocals in this band, but has the same task in Dreamland.

First of all, people who read my reviews know I'm a AOR/melodic rock fan so when I put this debut cd to a first spin in my cd player, I didn't know what to expect for a band that's advertised on different web sites as melodic death metal?

So you understand I had my doubts here, but what these Swedish-Danish troops deliver on their eponymous debut album is almost unbelievable.

Complex songs with seemingly chaotic structures but with incredibly strong melodies and choruses! This requires an enormous musical understanding.

No problem really, considering that the band members previously played in bands like Soilwork, Nightrage,Dream Evil, Kamelot, HateSphere, ...

So here are beyond a doubt six full-professionals at work!

The music is extremely catchy and melodic, Amaranthe plays modern metal.

The term "melodic death metal" in the press release is limited, although comparisons with Sonic Syndicate or Raunchy are quite acceptable.

Amaranthe also haveo a lot of strong power metal keyboard runs and the aforementioned choruses, most of which are so poppy and sweet, that one is really addicted to it.

Interesting also that this band has three damn good singers! Songs like "Hunger" (the first single) or "Automatic" are the purest hits - such strong hooks and melodies you definitely do not write every day.

In between one of the best ballads I've ever heard "Amaranthine"!

Amaranthe have delivered an absolutely strong debut album, which - as already mentioned - makes it downright addictive!

Recomended to all fans of strong melodic, power, gothic, american metal!

The CD was recorded at Hansen Studio in Ribe, Denmark with producer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Mercenary, Nightrage).
