10. Viva Las Vegas (Elvis Presley)
11. Bitch Is Back (Elton John)
15 years after Vince's last solo album, Tattoos & Tequila was way overdue. It was with great pleasure that I opened the deluxe package to find the album, the book, the shirt and the flask. Nice!
The title track, along with "Another Bad Day" are actually the only original songs, while the rest of the album is packed with covers.
Covers or no, the entire song list is drenched in Vince's own brand of party sauce though, feeling much more like what Mötley would sound like if Nikki was more of a happy camper (like Vince).
This being said, it's not all good on this album. Being a big Creedence fan myself, I found it very hard to hear what Vince & co. did to "Who'll Stop The Rain". Since this is a slower song, they took the typical party sound away and came up empty. I guess there's just some bands that can't be matched...
My personal favourites on this one are "AC/DC", for sounding so refreshing and different than the original, sort of an update of the originators of glam, made by the one who helped make the genre great.
"Viva Las Vegas" works great for me also, it misses the 50s flavour of the original but makes up for that in heaviness. I'm not sure The King would approve of this, but I sure as hell do...
Another few tracks worth listening to: "He's A Whore" (great chorus line, great lyrics), "No Feelings" (UK dirt drenched in Hollywood sauce, even though I'm not too fond of the Pistols), "Bitch Is Back" (covering Elton John deserves a medal without even listening to the result, awesome stuff).
All in all, I was expecting a piece of work much like Vince's other stuff, but the title and some great covers make for a good album nonetheless. I'm curious about the book also, but that's for another review...
