Twenty years after the highly successful debut album After the rain, the Nelson brothers finally come up with a sequel in the form of Lightning strikes twice.
In terms of sales, this new album is not as successful as its predecessor (the times have changed), but musically there is nothing wrong with that. Quite the opposite. Lightning Strikes Twice is full of very catchy songs that are brought by the brothers Gunnar and Matthew. Production sound is also excellent and so there is plenty to enjoy for fans of melodic rock with a poppy touch.
Especially the first half of the CD is fine with songs like "Call Me", "Day by Day","How I can miss you" and the ballad "To get back to you" (with Steve Lukather on guitar). Then the level drops something and makes vocals occasionally slightly too much of Bon Jovi.
The songs "when you're gone" and "kickin around" are a few songs that lift the level a bit so we can see that Lightning Strikes Twice is a perfectly acceptable album.

Gunnar Nelson: Lead Vocals, Guitars
Matthew Nelson: Lead Vocals, Bass
With
Gary Corbett: piano, keyboards
Brian Burwell: drums
David Morgan: piano, background vocals
